Sleep evades me. Again.
It's three thirty am and I'm haunted by echoes of the past. I'm trying to quiet my mind but can't stop tossing and turning.
Outside the night is quiet, except for an occasional car/scooter driving by or the stray dog pack making their annoying nightly noises. There is one dog in particular, he has such a unique, haunting howl. I want to be angry at him for waking me up but his loud bark always dissolves into this mournful baying. A few days ago, I went out onto my balcony and saw him for the first time. He stood at the edge of a parking lot calling his friends. Didn't look like too many were coming. He resembles a large red fox.
There's something about the howls of dogs and wolves that gets to me.

i get really annoyed by the stray dogs we have in Taiwan. i want them to go away! almost every night they wake me up with barking and fighting over their little doggy issues. i particularly find dog whining to be very annoying! i would like to shoot them, sniper style, from my rooftop!
ReplyDeleteI think something needs to be done about this but I'm not sure what. The stray population seems out of control. In Hsinchu I had the same problem with the wild dogs. It seems like wherever one goes in Taiwan, they will encounter strays. Puli is peaceful for the most part but the dogs do bark every night. The strays (and some of the chained up animals people call 'pets') can be vicious too; a pack of wild dogs chased me while I was bike riding today!
